What cookies and browser storage are

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later visits. Related technologies, including local storage, session storage and IndexedDB, let a site save data in your browser without using cookies. Together they can be used for genuinely necessary things (keeping you logged in, remembering items in a cart) and for things you may not want (following you between websites to build an advertising profile).

What this site uses

Nothing. As of the date at the top of this page, this website:

• sets no cookies of its own;
• allows no third party to set cookies, because no third-party scripts, embeds, fonts or trackers are loaded;
• writes nothing to local storage, session storage or IndexedDB;
• uses no analytics, advertising or session-recording technology.

Fonts are self-hosted and served from this site's own domain, so your browser makes no request to a font provider. The interactive parts of the site, such as the navigation menu, the capability concepts and the before/after comparison, keep their state in memory for as long as the page is open and forget it as soon as you leave.

Why there is no cookie banner

Consent banners exist so you can refuse non-essential tracking. This site has no non-essential tracking, so a banner would ask you to consent to nothing. That is an interruption which creates the appearance of privacy rather than the substance of it. If that ever stops being true, the banner appears and this page changes on the same day.

What about “strictly necessary” storage?

Some sites need a cookie to function at all: a session identifier, a cart, a login. This one doesn't. The enquiry form is submitted straight to the server and validated there; it doesn't need to remember anything about you between page loads. If you submit the form and it comes back with an error, the values you see are the ones sent back with that response, not values stored in your browser.

If optional technology is added later

Two things are built into this site but switched off, and neither runs unless it is explicitly configured:

• Spam protection (Cloudflare Turnstile). If the enquiry form starts attracting automated spam, Turnstile may be enabled. It is a privacy-focused alternative to traditional CAPTCHAs, but it does load a script from Cloudflare and may set cookies for the purpose of telling humans from bots. It is not enabled today.
• Analytics. None is installed. If privacy-respecting analytics is ever added, this page and the Privacy Policy will be updated to name the tool, say what it collects, and explain how to refuse it.

If anything non-essential is enabled, a consent control will appear before it loads, non-essential categories will be off by default, and rejecting them will be exactly as easy as accepting them. There will be a permanent way to reopen those preferences and change your mind.

Controlling cookies yourself

Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies and site data through its settings. Blocking everything for this site will not break it, because it doesn't rely on any of it.
